Important tips!
You’ve already booked your cruise and are ready to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip in the Enchanted Islands of Galapagos. However, there are eight things to know before embarking on a Galapagos cruise that will make your experience more enjoyable and allow you to take a breather while cruising through the archipelago.
You snooze, you lose!
Taking advantage of the whole day while on your trip will be the best thing you can do! Make sure to sleep well all night since your wake-up call will take place around 7:00 a.m., depending on the tourist site planned for the day. A tasty breakfast will be waiting for you in the restaurant area. This meal will fuel you with the energy you need for the day’s walks, snorkeling, or other activities scheduled in your Galapagos visit.
You won’t always touch water!
Arrival at visitor sites is by panga (motorized rafts), but landing may necessitate jumping into the water for a short walk to the beach. Still, on some islands, the panga can drop you off somewhere where you won’t have to wet your feet.
Relax and enjoy
After some morning activities and a wonderful lunch, visitors will have some time for a well-needed rest, in which they can enjoy the enclosed patio, laying taking some son, or depending on the boat, immersing yourself in the Jacuzzi. You’ll always get the chance to relax and rest for a while, we’ll take care of you!
Take pictures!
In the Galapagos Islands you’ll find dozens and dozens of photo opportunities, more than you can imagine, so bring plenty of memory cards, extra batteries, a charger, and, if possible, a submarine camera, because there are pictures waiting to be taken by you everywhere.
Some people get sea sickness, if you are one of them, keep reading
So much entertainment mixed with sea motion can make you dizzy, and while seasickness medication is available onboard, it is a good idea to bring your own, especially if you know which helps you the best.
What if I’m vegetarian?
No problem! The agency gives you the chance to let us know in advance your food preference so we can communicate it with our staff. However, keep in mind that South America doesn’t quite usually cater well to vegetarians, but most yacht chefs will do their best to accommodate you.
Electricity aboard
This is very important since most people want their phones and camera batteries charged while onboard to take the best pictures ever. So, usually all Galápagos ship cruises have 110V AC outlets that accept the two-prong electrical plug used in North America. Moreover, newer ships often have electrical outlets in each cabin, and some may even have dedicated USB charging stations
Tips to cruise members
When the end of the cruise is sadly approaching, make sure to tip the guide and crew if you find it as a way to thank them! The amount is entirely up to you and how satisfied you were with the service provided by the staff as well as the guide’s knowledge and helpfulness.
Implementing these tips will help you achieve a more enjoyable time while on cruise. Remember they are optional! Nevertheless, always take them in mind.
