One of the most peculiar birds to be found in the Amazon must be the hoatzin. This animal has multiple stomachs and a chicken-like appearance. This explains why it is occasionally referred to as the “Flying Cow.” This bird that resembles a dinosaur emits an odd reptile-like odor and calls loudly. They fly awkwardly due to their large wings and small heads. To defend themselves, they use the large claw at the tip of their wings. Adult hoatzin birds cannot swim, but hoatzin chicks can hide underwater to avoid predators. Adults are able to produce 4-5 blue-spotted eggs at once.
