Galapagos beaches are as varied as the islands themselves. Usually with white shores of sand that are home to an incredible number of wildlife. Many animals like sea lions lay on the beaches to relax or to take some sun in as visitors do! Crabs usually dart across the sands, and blue-footed boobies socialize with other species or among them on top of the cove’s rocks.
Consider visiting the following beaches to experience the Galapagos’ magic and exotic beaches for yourself!
Gardner Bay
Gardner Bay was voted one of the Top 20 Beaches in the World by CNN. In here you can not only walk around lazy sea lions but you can also lay in the sand with them and take a nap! Marine Iguanas, Blue-Footed Boobies, Sally’s Light-Footed Crabs, and wading birds like Turnstones and Wandering Stilts are possible additional beach attractions. Undoubtedly, water is too enticing to refuse. One of the greatest locations in the Galapagos to swim with curious sea lions is here. It’s also an excellent place to go snorkeling.
Cormorant Point
Two distinct beaches may be found at Cormorant Point, one with white sand and the other with green sand. The abundance of olivine crystals is what gives the green sand beach its distinctive tint. While the thin, crushed coral-based white sand of Flour Beach. Here you can appreciate pink flamingos looking for shrimp to eat as well as Blue Footed Boobies diving in search of fish. Visitors can go for a walk to Flour Beach and snorkel on Olivine Beach.
Darwin Bay
Also known as a paradise to watch birds, Darwin Bay is a stunning white coral beach with sally lightfoot crabs, marine iguanas, sea lions, and great frigatebirds as residents where you can go for 1-2 hours long walks. Here you will see red-footed boobies and gulls, which stop to rest on the rock cliffs. Also, some sharks, sea lions, and rays may all be seen swimming close to the island in the water. During the visit, you can take time to relax on the beach, go snorkeling or kayaking.
Puerto Villamil
This beautiful town with a long radiant beach is considered one of the best places in Galápagos. After a day of busy exploration, Puerto Villamil is the perfect location to swim, surf, unwind, or watch the sunset in a hammock at one of the waterfront bars. It is situated on the bay. Tourists often are joined on the fine sand by marine iguanas, Sally Lightfoot crabs, and blue-footed boobies.
Rábida
Rábida is a small red sanded Island. Here, visitors can take a walk around the beach, inland and up the cliffs. They may find lazy Galápagos Sea Lions laying on the beach taking some sun in. Behind the beach, pink flamingos (which are pink because of their diet) often are there with their head down seeking for food to feed in. Pretty Pintail Ducks y Stilts are also seen along the beach. Visitors can access the cliffs at Rabida via a little walk. The walk leads you through a grove of native Opuntia (prickly pear) cactus and Palo Santo trees. For land birds, this is the ideal environment. Along the path, Galápagos Snakes can occasionally be seen.
Tortuga Bay
Tortuga Bay Beach is perfect for many activities. Visitors first start with a trailhead that is a short stroll from town and travels along the beach through mangrove and cactus trees. The environment opens out into a tropical wonderland at the conclusion of the mile-and-a-half climb, attracting both tourists and wildlife. Playa Brava is the first length of white sand, where marine iguanas lounge on the warm, soft sand amid the gorgeous blue seas offshore. This is the area to surf, and residents may frequently be found there around ten o’clock in the morning, before the noon sun sets. The tranquil waters are perfect for swimming or kayaking, and boats may be rented by the hour.
