Natural Arrival Point
Baltra Island, with a non-specific name but originally called Seymour Surin in honor of Lord Hough (marine and british aristocrat) is an island located in Galapágos which many tourists consider the main location to visit when they arrive to begin their adventure. Tourists/People often visit this Island first because it is where the principal airport is located, which was actually built by Americans during World War II.
It is located near Santa Cruz Island. Baltra Island has a variety of arid vegetation and dry environment, mainly composed of salt bushes, prickly pear and palo santo trees. Nevertheless, many birds and land iguanas consider this Island their “home”. The Island temperature ranges from 18 to 29 degrees celsius.
Even though Baltra Island does not have specific spots to tour or to stay in (hotels), it is still considered a place to spend the day due to the interesting and large amount of history you can find in the area. Above everything, people that come to Baltra enter but also leave the archipelago with gratitude.
