What you need to know about Wolf Island, Galápagos

Wolf is an Island in Galápagos full of places to visit and explore. Franz Theodor Wolf, a German geologist and explorer, gave the island of the lobos its name. He spent many years mapping, topographing, and researching the geology of the Galápagos. Wolf Island, like Darwin Island, was once a submerged volcano whose top rose above the sea to become the island we see today.

The diving areas surrounding Isla de los Lobos de Galapagos are composed of volcanic platforms, cliffs, and underwater caverns that are filled with a variety of marine life. Wolf is also famous because the vampire finch is a well-known and unique native to be on the lookout for (also known as the sharp-nosed ground finch).

This Island experiences tremendous dryness for a large portion of the year, but resourceful Vampire Finch has created a novel method of surviving. In order to feed on the blood of bigger seabirds like boobies, the vampires have evolved. To remove the blood, they actually punch a hole in the booby’s skin.

Interesting facts about Wolf Island

Vampire Finches actually punch holes to feed from the boobies' blood.

One of the most difficult Islands to visit.
