It is very simple to get to the Galapagos Islands, and with this article we hope you’ll be able to prepare your trip for an unforgettable vacation. Make sure to keep in mind when visiting the Galapagos Islands that they are 600 miles off the coast of South America, and as a protected National Park, there’s many strict limits on incoming flights.
How to get there
The Jose Joaquin de Olmedo “International Airport” in Guayaquil gets daily departures from:
- Miami and New York, both in the United States.

The “Mariscal Sucre” International Airport in Quito gets flights from:
- Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Miami, and New York: American cities.

All arriving in Guayaquil or Quito. We also suggest that you arrive in Ecuador at least 48 hours before your Galapagos flight.

Remember!
-There are currently no international direct flights to the Galapagos Islands.
-Everyday flights to the Galapagos Islands depart from the mainland Ecuadorian cities of Quito and Guayaquil.
-The Galapagos flight will last approximately two and a half hours.
-The majority of flights from Quito stop in Guayaquil.
-There are 2 airports in Galapagos, one in Baltra and another one San Cristobal; ensure that you book a flight to the islands from which your cruise departs.
Town transport
- Bikes: the most common and convenient way of transporting yourself to different places! Bicycles can be rented by the day or by the hour. Many of the tourist attractions are very close. As a result, you will have the ideal opportunity to enjoy a ride while marveling at the wonderfulness of the Galapagos islands.
- Taxis: taxi cabs in the Galapagos Islands are white pick-up trucks that can be found roaming the streets or parked anywhere. Taxi rides in the Galapagos Islands are settled to be around US$2.00.
- Sea: this may be a different way to move around the islands. If you are willing to take this option make sure to not have ease to sea-sickness. Several speedboat companies provide inter-island transportation. Shuttles run every 2.5 to 3 hours from Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz Island) to Puerto Villamil (Isabela Island).
