Darwin Finche’s

Power of evolution

What you need to know about Darwin Finche's

Darwin Finches are cute little birds that also happen to be an evolution on these islands. In Galápagos, there are 17 species of Darwin’s Finches and they range in size from 4 to 8 in (10cm to 20cm). Visitors often tell that for such an important animal in the history of science, Darwin’s Finches are not especially unusual or intriguing to look at! While they are generally drab in appearance and do not display any exceptional activity, these little birds are a real symbol of the islands and the archipelago’s distinctiveness. Nevertheless, the finches are now threatened by an imported parasitic fly, and they are the subject of scientific investigations to assist the Galápagos National Park officials in their efforts to protect these distinctive species.
