Galápagos Hawks are the island’s only species of hawk and also the largest bird of prey. The Galápagos Hawk’s major prey is the Galápagos Lava Lizard, as well as other tiny reptiles and birds, and they may thus be found on most deserted islands. Even though this bird is a predator, it is under threat most of the time. Unfortunately, unauthorized human activities and the alterations caused by invasive non-native species are the actual threat.
Interesting facts
There are now just 130 known breeding territories for Galápagos Hawks.
Birds, lizards, iguanas, insects, young tortoises, and rodents are among the prey items consumed by Galápagos Hawks.
They mostly use the same nest each year.
