Red Footed Boobies are the smallest Booby species on the Archipielago. The pigmentation in the legs and feet of Red-Footed Boobies is derived from carotenoids found in their seafood diet. In contrast to other Booby species, which nest on the ground, they usually nest in colonies around the trees, this is what helps make them more difficult to recognize than their relatives and almost impossible to see without going ashore. Another interesting characteristic of Red Footed Boobies habits is that it is less possible for them to be observed than other birds since they are semi-nocturnal. They often spend part of the night feeding in the waters just off the coast of the islands, which makes them rather nest on the outlying islands than on other places.
