What you need to know about the White-Cheeked Pintail
White Cheeked Pintail ducks also known as “Dabbling duck” is a brown-chested duck. They can be found around salt water, brackish lakes, and freshwater lagoons that can be found all over the central and southern area of the Galápagos, with its distinctive white cheeks. Also, they usually can reach a height of 20in (51cm). Male and female White Cheeked Pintails are similar in both size and color. These ducks scavenge for food on the water’s surface. Their diet consists primarily of vegetable matter and small invertebrates found in the sand and soil of both coastal and highland waters. They will occasionally use their diving abilities to avoid predators.
Interesting facts
During the breeding cycle, they can lay up to ten pale brown eggs with a 26-day incubation period.
They have a restricted range, but still are consistent in population.
This shy duck may be wary of visitors.
