Pristine Natural Wonder
Fernandina is a place in Galápagos you should never miss. The archipelago’s youngest island, Fernandina, formed between 300,000 and a million years ago was created out of fire, and now it is among the regions with the highest levels of volcanic activity on earth. There is black lava fluid everywhere which is dazzling to the eye of the tourist. It is literally the closest you’ll come to the Galapagos volcanic point. The volcano’s eruptions in this Island are very common and actually happen very often.
Fernandina Island lacks much vegetation and is rather dry. There is a great diversity when it comes to wildlife. Important feeding areas for Galapagos marine animals are created by the cold Cromwell current, which transports nutrients and plankton from the west. Therefore, it is perfect for seabirds like flightless cormorants and Galapagos penguins. Additionally, there is a lot of food for both reptiles (marine iguanas) and mammals (Galapagos sea lions).
In Fernandina Island you can practice different activities such as long hikes around the landscapes, panga ride and snorkel. Overmore, there is also scuba diving. The only thing is that this activity can only be performed by advanced divers.
